Inside Britain’s weirdest council houses

A new one off documentary meets local authority housed tenants who have transformed homes into something rather extraordinary including a mock cruise ship, baked bean museum and a recreation of Sistine Chapel.

Channel 4’s documentary, Britain’s Weirdest Council Houses meets council house tenants such as Robert Burns and Barry Kirk.

Robert, is a former decorator who spent 12 years transforming his three-bedroom Brighton terrace home into a replica of the Sistine Chapel, including Michaelangelo’s ceiling and The Last Judgement fresco. However instead of only showcasing the lives of the saints and important religious events in these famous paintings instead he has replaced them very modern stars including Wayne Rooney, ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Nigella Lawson and Simon Cowell.

Barry Kirk, 61, who has spent over £10,000 to transform his flat in Port Talbot, south Wales, into a museum dedicated to baked beans.

Britain’s Weirdest Council Houses aired yesterday night on Channel 4.
