Ashfield’s most unscrupulous landlords have been named and shamed!
A legal case between Environment Health News (EHN) and the Ministry of Justice and Information Commissioner has allowed a database containing the names of hundreds of convicted landlords across the UK to become public.
The database shows over 2,006 individuals and companies across the UK that were fined nearly £3million between 2006 and 2014 for housing offences under the Housing Act 2004.
This list showed that the highest number of landlord prosecutions in Nottinghamshire was in Ashfield; where 11 landlords were convicted of 22 offences, putting Nottinghamshire in second place behind London with the highest number of prosecutions on the database.
Cheryl Butler an Ashfield district councillor said: “It gives national recognition and reflects the tireless efforts of our private sector enforcement team who continue to improve the standards of privately rented accommodation within Ashfield. The authority strives to help improve the quality of our tenant’s lives and will not tolerate rogue landlords.”
