How To Maximize Storage Space In The Home

How To Maximize Storage Space In The Home

As your family grows – and as a result the items in your home – it might start to feel like the walls are closing in on you. Space starts to become difficult to find and as much as you are trying to use available storage to keep it organised, it just isn’t enough.

But, are you using a storage solution to make the best use out of the space? The wrong storage could actually make your rooms even smaller! There are in fact a few easy ways to maximise storage space in your home, which will quickly make the space become much bigger.

So, before you do anything else you need to have a serious clear out – it’s time to get rid of anything you don’t need, because there is not point trying to make room in your home for these items.

Sort items into four piles; first is for those things that don’t belong anywhere other than the bin, second for anything you could donate to charity and third for the items you want to sell. So, what is the fourth pile for, you ask? Well, not all storage has to be found in the home and by using a company such as Alligator Storage – you can remove a large amount from your property in one go without having to get rid of it.

Now it is time to start making the most of your space at home…

Think vertically

Are you making the most of the empty wall space? Floor space is limited, so you should consider storage solutions that are vertical rather than horizontal.

Multi-functional furniture

There are items, such as a bed, that you can’t go without. However, if you opt for multi-functional furniture then this will work to maximise your space rather than take away from it. An ottoman bed, for example, opens upwards to reveal a large amount of space that could be used to store anything you wish from clean bedding to fresh towels.

Likewise you may want to think of furniture that can be folded away when not in use, such as a nest of tables in the lounge rather than one large coffee table.

Use dead space

There is plenty of dead space around the home that can be used for maximising storage, but perhaps you just can’t see it yet! Well, how about that space above the door? Put a shelf here in the bathroom and you can use it to store all your clean towels!

Think outside the box

You need to think outside the box when it comes to making the most of your space – take a look at this Buzzfeed article for some inspiration. There are probably a few things you had never thought of that will maximise every inch of space in your home.

Customise

How about customising your own storage solutions? You could perhaps create a table that hangs from the ceiling or that folds out from the wall. Bespoke storage and furniture tailored to your needs will make the best use of your space.

You may also want to decorate to give the illusion of more space – paint in lighter colours which will brighten the room and make them appear larger – mirrors can also help make a room appear longer and wider!
